I was waiting for this. It's better than anything I could have imagined.

@avclub-749a8e6c231831ef7756db230b4359c8:disqus Dang, I was close! That's so cool. I had never read that interview before.

Haha nope, I'm just that much of a geek for this band.

@avclub-d9773268b3b8a34af17f8cff7aa99c8f:disqus I haven't gotten the chance yet to find someone nerdy enough to discuss it with, but if I did, I'd describe "The Good Thing" as a love song written in the style of the Communist Manifesto or assembly instructions.

Agreed. In and of itself, it's totally solid, but when judged by the same standards as everything that followed, it pales in comparison. I'd have to knock it down a notch just for that. Mine would go

I hate to think that I'm a strictly right-brained, logistics and analysis-minded person, but I think that nails why I love this band so much. There's so much to consider in their aesthetic, lyrics and sound. Plus, they also cover the emotional side of things, in a bizarre, ironic way.

Okay, here's something I always found amazing: The refrain of "The Great Curve" has so many vocal lines stacked in such a way that it honest-to-God seems like the chorus is three-dimensional.

D: Where's Rabin to defend his beleaguered, misunderstood jam band? (Not that I actually endorse Phish.)

@avclub-884c4beddd8c98bb3b016bdfcc1bcdf8:disqus SO agreed. To me, Little Creatures is *almost* on par with the 78-80 stuff, just in terms of songwriting quality. It was one of the first albums I listened to as a kid, and I like to think it had a lot to do with making me the weird pop culture nerd I am today. And I was

You people are fantastic. I have a lot of strong positive feelings and thoughts about this song, but they've already been voiced and so I won't repeat them. Suffice it to say that I am in the camp that thinks this song is simultaneously sincere and sarcastic, but there is definitely a ton to unpack here, as someone

And I loved both of them dearly. In fact, I appreciate mythology and character moments as much as the next guy, but the sheer imagination and surprise in this episode makes me think after one viewing that it's my favorite AT episode yet. And that's saying something.

@GuyIncognitoII:disqus Yeah, the fourth season of the AV Club just isn't the same now that Keith Phipps is out as siterunner.
EDIT: I think I just made the same joke you did. Whatever. It's late. Mine is the < 100 IQ version.

EDIT: Oh, I see now. It looked like Mr. Burns was wearing the Mizzou logo. But yeah, Gil is a better fit for us. :/

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. I like the pitched-up and pitched-down vocals on this song, but I hope they don't abuse them on the album.

90% of everything on Neely's site is slightly surreal comedy genius. I am so happy that you guys (and Erik Adams) realize that.

:(

This was a hugely entertaining article. I'd say "do more like this!", but I doubt the AV Club has a huge selection of bosom buddy directors who they can just call up to help contribute.

1. Midnite Vultures
2. Odelay
3. Modern Guilt
4. The Information/Guero
5. Sea Change

Just came down here to say the same. I would give these guys a pass if they seemed at all consequential, entertaining or talented, but this appears to be just another fan video in an endless sea of Youtube fan videos.

I got a Girls notification for this??
