I'm sooo glad you linked to this. I remember seeing this when it aired, and I had no idea who Morton Downey Jr was, I just thought it was some insane character that Chris Elliot came up with. Then later when I saw the real thing, I couldn't believe it was a real show, and that Elliot had nailed him so perfectly. And

See also Belushi doing his Samurai bit during a Frank Zappa song (plus of course his duet with Joe Cocker), and Chevy Chase playing cowbell and singing backup on Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."

Michael Anthony Hall may well have been the absolute worst performer they ever had (as a regular cast member). He couldn't get through a single sketch without botching at least a line or two. He's been good in films, but he was a terrible cue card reader/live stage performer.

I agree completely. The overly-sensitive Rabin often takes it upon himself to be offended on behalf of others who probably are not actually offended.

Yeah, I think the review is off-base about the perceived racism and homophobia. Racial humor is not the same thing as racist humor. Did it not occur to Rabin that Wayans may have been in on at least some of the bits, or that Sweeney actually WANTED to play Nancy Reagan, as opposed to being forced to?

1. Hejira. An absolute masterpiece. Her playing had gotten better than ever, with tunings (Coyote, Hejira) going farther than she ever had and her style was now really rhythmic. Her vocals were also at their peak, as was her lyrical prowess. She was in her peak prime, and had gone through a period (a la Blue, to which

Dude, you own Joni Mitchell's absolute worst album. I refer to it as "Dog Eat Dog Shit."
Do yourself a favor and get Hejira. Also, Ladies of the Canyon, Court and Spark and Turbulent Indigo just to round things out and get the awful sound of Dog Eat Dog Shit out of your eyes.

I feel as if I should comment.

They were at times labeled "The Elton John Band." I agree they were underrated. "Here and There" is a great live recording of their '74 tour. The expanded double CD as the full shows from London and NYC, with very different set lists. (Plus, the NYC show is the classic Thanksgiving concert that has John Lennon's three

Before Stern went national, the first stage was being simulcast in NY and Philly. The #1 morning show in Philly at the time was WMMR's Morning Zoo with John DeBella, so Stern took him on hammered at the show constantly (and eventually conquered the time slot). Virtually every new city that got added from that point on
