WHen you're talking about bass players, you can't leave out Paul McCartney. Just listen to Abbey Road or Pepper: it's a McCartney tour de force. He's not as heavy as Entwhistle, of course, but he's melodic when the song needs it, and kicks ass when it's time to do so.
Because of hearing loss,l Townshend had (briefly) stopped playing electric. But he still played acoustic. Well. And with all the fire and energy as always. Nowadays I'm pretty sure he switched back and forth.
