"Lit up with Proustian memory". Pretty turn of phrase.

I think I might finish the first season. Because the (sort of spoilers) scene where he tries to put the plate together was heartbreaking.

I watched the first two episodes of Breaking Bad today. I'd never seen any of it and I don't think I'm going to watch any more. Don't get me wrong, it's very, very well-done. Only a few shows take me into their worlds and make me care about their stakes and this was one that did it incredibly quickly. But it's not

I actually didn't realize this until I went to friends' houses. In my house the TV was never on unless we were watching something, by which I mean just sitting there and watching something. I was pretty surprised to see that other houses just have it on as apparently a default setting.

I hope that all the rich people there collectively decided to bid a bit more on the other paintings and leave this one at 0 so that they would 1. still be giving to charity and 2. still be making Ricky Gervais feel bad.

I got that as well. The most notable similarity I can point to are the runs (I'm trying to say "rapid tone changes" if that's not the right word). He sounds so very much like Stevie Wonder on those. The synthesizer in the background completes things.

Norm Macdonald is now the spokesperson for SafeAuto insurance, apparently, and the PR release says that they picked him for his "tell-it-like-it-is" style. I haven't heard that much of his standup, but if "Me Doing Standup" is any indication, his style seems to be more "tell-it-like-it-isn't". The bit about how to

Today was the first time I listened to anything by Fiona Apple (intentionally), having previously thought of her as a strung-out space cadet courtesy of once reading her Wikipedia bio. But I just listened to The Idler Wheel twice and am now in that awesome place where I 1. have realized that I really like an artist

The Banach-Tarski buddy cop flick can't get out of post-production. It keeps getting bigger and bigger in editing.

"Guest" liked both of our posts so I think we can call it a draw.
