East of Eden is my favorite book ever. It's also the longest, so I would say read that first so you don't have to rush it at the end. Other than that, I don't know if the order really makes a difference; they're all good books (I can't speak to the Crucible or Native Son).

Honestly, this might be the episode that I would show people if I could only show them one episode. It's not necessarily my favorite, but it handles the emotional and comedic beats so well that I think anyone (well, except NBC) would understand how great it is.
