I've never thought of the Community pilot as a great episode of TV, or even a great pilot, but what it does do is tonally establish the show, and serve as a good thesis statement. The best elements of the show were there from the very beginning, and it's easy to see how it became great.

So I recently found out that my dad watched S1-5 of The Simpsons and the full run of Arrested Development, both when they aired. He also likes Community, from what I've shown him of it. Does that make him…cool?!
