Settlers is a very good introduction to strategy board gaming. I still like it, but the high luck factor can be frustrating at times — you can very easily plan a good strategy only to see it obliterated by dice rolls.

Not exactly the type but not bad
Roland has lived a long time, but I always thought time was out of whack in his world such that he didn't show his true age — just the effects of wear and tear and being constantly on the move. I pictured him looking 40-50, tall, very lean and craggy.

My 2 year old is very fond of Dr. Seuss. Those are great fun to read to him, the rhythm of the prose is wonderful. Fox in Socks is a masterpiece of linguistic mischief — it's crafted to be near-impossible to read aloud. I've gotten a little more precise with it (due to many repeat requests), but it's still tough.

Songs for the Deaf was one of the best records of the decade. Everything else has been merely excellent.
