I think Two Towers was the first major use of it in a trailer. I think I read an interview with Mansell where he said that Aronofsky hates that it's been co-opt to sell blockbuster but Mansell himself was amused by it because he hadn't seen himself as scoring action movies before.

I read the original Hubert Selby Jr. novel of this. It's a fairly faithful adaptation of the novel, and that's what's kind of weird about the film. Since the novel was written in the late '70s and the film came out in 2000, you'd think Aronofsky would have made some updates. But he doesn't really.

How involved are TV directors in the actual editing of the episodes they direct? I'm sure they have input, but I'd think they'd defer a lot to the showrunners in that situation.

That'd be like taking a laugh track off of a Seinfeld or an older popular sitcom that also had a laugh track. The 3-camera set-up of the regular sets demands the illusion of a live audience.
