I am grateful that I grew up with B&W because it doesn't look odd at all to me; in fact I find it comforting.  I do feel sorry for young people who are close-minded about it but then I have to remind myself how I felt about silent movies.

The fact that we know that the marriage was ultimately ill-fated makes the scene even more bittersweet.  It was clear that these were two people who really wanted it to work.  The emotions and the tears on display were real which is why it hits us at gut-level.

Of course Walt wants Hank to know.  I can't believe so many people are missing that and saying it is bad writing.  It fits Walter's whole history and profile.  When combined with the MRI scene it has even more meaning.
