"My pen!"

Hocus Pocus
by Focus. Because nothing rawks harder than yodeling. And Jan Akkerman's solo is pretty great.

Ouch! Really?

FOW - power pop, yes. "Stacy's Mom", quintessential.

I don't know if Brendan Benson is power pop, but "Lapelco" is one of my favorite albums of all time, just one great song after the next, it's the gift that keeps on giving - I am incapable of excessive kvelling.

opened=opener, whatever.

I love Squeeze big time and the Cars had an amazing run of singles, but what they are missing is in-your-face overdriven guitars. B-52's - no. Although their debut album is one of the great all-time debut albums.

"Blue Sky on Mars" by Matthew Sweet is a great album, too. The only song that's not great, oddly, is the opened "Come to California", but every other cut is terrific.

Norm a great impressionist?
Really, not snark? I always thought the "joke" was that he was basically Norm MacDonald not even trying to do an impression saying, "See? I'm Burt Reynolds. Got a mustache. Burt Reynolds."

Johnny D - big Beatle fan here (actually went to Beatlefests when a kid), but punk wouldn't have happened without "Helter Skelter"? Puh-leez. Start with the VU, Stooges, MC5.

Holy Shit
If you haven't already, check out those clips of the Doris Day show. You will not believe that tv EVER looked like that. And WTF with the second one?!?! Doris is in a fashion show - why? And it freezes on her ass - I don't get it?!?! Seriously, watching it will cause your testicles to retract into your body

Damn straight, Fred. Been free-streaming those from NetFlix regularly - nothing beats 'em.

Mormon: done. Mind blown! Always wondered why I couldn't figure out what Bowie was singing - the lyrics are like an expressionist painting, just throwing random slabs of images and broken sentences to paint a picture greater than the sum of it's shards. I love the song even more now! Gotta go put it on…..

Polynesiantown
Nice little shout out to SCTV at the end, with the "It's only New Zealand Town" line. I said to myself, here comes Johnny La Rue's crane shot…and viola. Nice touch.

I brings a dog to the movies so's I can give her a bone.

Jessica - serves ya right! You thought you could take advantage of some schlub - oops!

This is must read - follow linky. If you've never liked Casey, this'll give you plenty of ammo. I found it insightful, informative, and though I am a Carla fan, credible.
Hootie!

Works for me.

OMFG, are we really having this conversation? Dissing the Dead because they don't rock as hard as Television? This is completely asinine - should we put down Richard Thompson because he doesn't rock as hard as Television? Or Leonard Cohen? Hey, listen up - there are different styles of music that are meant to make

I bet Paula Deen's got some wicked cans.
