A David Lynch late night talk show is the best idea there has ever been or ever will be.

Phoenix's performance in this is going to win best actor easily. His character is the fucking best thing ever.

I disagree. I like the opening but its absence works here because he wasn't in the comedy club at all in this episode. The typical walk to the Comedy Cellar feels weird when he's not at the mic in the beginning of the show and in those instances I agree he should scrap it altogether.
Oh, and L. Ron was in the navy, plus he was similarly debauched during much of his life, like Joaquin's character. Plus I should add L. Ron's ship was called the Enchanter and I bet PSH has a ship called the Master. My guess is Joaquin works on a big ass ship and then tries to break away from the lunatic that is L.…

So I am very stupid, but this poster seems to simultaneously evoke the alcoholism and naval life that, as far as I can tell, is central to both Joaquin and Philip Seymour's characters—Joaquin being ex-navy and PSH being a stand-in for the insane L. Ron Hubbard who I seem to recall built some gigantic boat, perhaps…

@avclub-a93a879594c13c12a83fd45ab289a022:disqus It's even stranger that with all the show's praise, there was a Leno quote on the first season Louie dvd. I think he just goes out of his way not to stick his nose up at things, plus Leno has always been a stand-up.

Don't be fooled. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING after Jim and Pam get together is hackneyed bullshit. The finale of season 3 is the perfect conclusion to the show. It even feels like a series finale. So just watch all of the first 3 seasons for some really good TV and leave it at that.
