pretty crappy episode
From what I remember, this is one of the worst episodes of early Simpsons. Like everybody else, I love this show to no end and I can appreciate that this episode had the show go to dark places pretty quickly, with Homer about to kill himself and everything, but this episode sucks. It's really sad

big mistake. Loud Reed's music is perfect when you're crushed by depression!

This is actually Jack's idea. He's done one-off live records before just for concert attendees. At his record label/store, where this concert happened, he records live on reel-to-reel tape, then puts it to vinyl. I'm sure Conan liked the idea but still, this is a Jack White thing.

not a firstie
'60s guitar riff is actually a song from Jack White's current band, the Dead Weather.

To make it even better HipsterDBag, he did show off his money box but it wasn't filled with hundreds. If I recall correctly, it was filled with dollar bills and he talked about how convenient it was when you needed a dollar.

Tom Waits has definitely heard Bring Da Ruckus.

Don't know, but that shit looks like Chip's Challenge from the Microsoft Entertainment Pack.

not* a Fred Durst style atrocity

I think this band might be completely horrendous
I'll admit it if I'm proven wrong, but I really think we might have reached the end of hipster culture where people start embracing truly awful music. Like how grunge devolved into Staind, Sugar Ray, and Limp Bizkit, I think post 2001 indie rock has devolved into sleigh

Yeah, watching it now in memoriam. That show got the best out of everybody on it.

It's weird you think Mario is so uniquely separate from other games, soda, and bad music.

Other than saying "Mario 64 was a terrible game," I gotta agree with tap. The galaxy games are way different than 64 and truer to the feel of the original Mario games.

Damn straight, clydeumney. Damn straight.

I assumed I'd be shocked by the truth, as you suggested, but that story just sort of bummed me out.

Finally
Another Moment For Us.

I agree that Jack's vocals aren't at their best here. I love the white stripes in part because there's a fragility and weakness to his voice that suits the band. In the dead weather, it's all cocky rap-rock vocal stuff that he still does surprisingly well but it just doesn't completely work.

The Irving Berlin thing still doesn't seem as bad as the Ramones' inability to change key. Most popular musicians can't read music. It's just not a requirement to make great music at all.

That sound is awesome.

Leno has those great colorful backdrops behind the musical guests that everybody loves, right? Oh, those are terrible and unbelievably hacky like the rest of his show. Right.

Of course Bob Dylan isn't God but pissing all over his legacy just to be a contrarian is pretentious and stupid. The whole argument about who is a better writer than Dylan is dumb because he's worthy of respect just for being considered among all of the greatest songwriters. He's changed the world as much as any
