Just checking, and it's from the director of Road House. Not that Road House is "good", but it's entertaining in it's own way. Surprising to see such a lifeless picture from the same guy. Willis was really sleepwalking through this one.

I'd agree with your dissent. While Willis was in a cold spell, he was still getting roles and had been in a few mild hits, and the 3 or 4 years after Pulp Fiction pretty much looks like the rest of his career. Travolta, whose career was absolutely dead, is the one that got the huge bump. Just looking at the box

There's a documentary on the dvd release of The Stunt Man about the career of Richard Rush, and he brings this film up. Apparently him doing Color of Night for the producer was supposed to allow him to do another picture he wanted. After the film was finished the producer wanted to re-cut the film, they played the two

I've always liked Hudson Hawk, though I saw it in theaters when I was a kid and the fact that it played so well to a pre-teen is probably part of why so many people hated it. That said, I saw it again recently and still enjoy it. It does what it's trying to do fairly well, aside from the opening and closing couple of

This is a good reminder for a movie that I had intended to see but never got around to after its rather quick disappearance after release.

I'm fairly certain the reason The Californians gets used so much is because it almost always gets a good audience reaction. It'd probably die a lot quicker if the studio audience hated it as much as people here seem to, but it seems to draw the opposite response.

I'm not sure why you're inferring that I think there's some kind of personal vendetta from some posters against Kate Mara, I too was talking about the reaction here to her performance/characterization. The critical reviews in that regard have been generally positive, which is my take, which is why I'm surprised some

The Kate Mara hate from some is confusing me. Most reviews I've seen point to her as a strength on the show and I'd agree. Different strokes I guess.

Bridget Fonda and Phoebe Cates?

Yes, the Tiptoes one was great too.

I do really like HDTGM personally, but I'm also a big We Hate Movies fan. I enjoy their thorough dissection of the films they cover, and they have some hilarious impressions. That said, they do occasionally draw my ire with some of their cracks. I'm still a bit miffed by the "Hollywood-never-was" Bruce Dern joke. They

Aside from Sleepaway Camp and 88 Minutes, I also think the I Know Who Killed Me and Sucker Punch episodes with Ken Marino and Chelsea Peretti are hilarious. Mac and Me and Old Dogs were pretty good too. The Happy Endings actors are just so darn energetic.

I love Alphaville, it's one of my favorite films. Fun mix of politics, sci-fi and noir with touches of comedy and several great romantic sequences. Of course, great visuals as well.

Never watched it, but Close to Home lasted for two whole seasons!

But the Super Bowl and its commercials combines America's two favorite pastimes, football and finding something to be pissed off about.

Man I had such a crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh. Besides the eye candy, she was really good in just about everything she was in when she was getting all those roles in the 90's. Underrated.

After Dark, My Sweet is a real gem that seems forgotten.

I think most people who saw Frankenweenie who don't populate AVClub liked it. I'm not sure why everybody here dismisses it, aside from the fact that it's him returning to something he's already done before.

I've been really impressed with Juno Temple in the films I've seen her in where she's had a meaty role. Definitely looking forward to more of her.

If things like The Dukes of Hazzard and What's Happening are given passes as enjoyable pieces of mindless entertainment, which I'd agree with, I'm not sure why poor Alice is called excruciating. Of course it didn't come close to the much more ambitious movie, but I'd put it in the same boat as the other mindless
