I'd be surprised by anything less than 5 seasons at this point (ASOS + some of AFFC/ADWD). ASOS has so much good stuff it could build even better word of mouth for the series.

The show's producers (Benioff specifically, I think) have said that 10 episodes isn't a budgetary thing - it's the most they're capable of doing given the practicalities of filming in multiple locations at once with all the various actors/actresses, scheduling, etc.

The one good thing w/regards to the actors is that, by and large, they aren't going for the big names that can't or won't commit to a long-term series

There's some other stuff as well: Renly killed, Stannis defeated, Lannnister-Tyrell alliance, Greyjoys invade the North, White Walkers and zombies on the move, Wildlings massing as well.

He only has that one scene, really, so they probably just cut him since it's not worth scheduling and paying his actor for a scene that isn't really that important in the long run (given the South's ignorance of the situation at the Wall is pretty evident already).
