If you've never read them at this point I'd say that leave them unread until the series is over. Or at least stay 2 books behind. There's enough cross pollination that you might spoil something that the show hasn't shown yet but will.

It's well known that Tyiron is Martin's voice in Westeros-land. If he is killed off, it'll be a bigger lurch than when he killed Ned in Book 1

Based on what I know of the novels he should be on screen through the 2017 season. That would be the first season past what is in novels so far (unless they take 2 seasons filming Dance with Dragons, which might happen). It's possible that he's killed off in Winds of Winter, but prophecy makes that seem unlikely.

He's probably under contract with HBO through 2016. This will likely be extended
