This movie sounds great. Isn't Margaret Atwood the lady who wrote The Handmaiden's Tale?

@avclub-f2b489efd726db529335e31c83509c73:disqus I feel like I've met a long-lost brother.
@ashleyrayharris I'll restate my position one more time and then I'll let it go. I'm saying that a white show is a show that is watched by a predominantly white audience and avoided by nonwhite audiences. I'm not saying that nonwhite people aren't allowed to watch these shows, or that no nonwhite person would be…
@avclub-f2b489efd726db529335e31c83509c73:disqus I was responding to Pillbox's response to your comment. I am a glib cunt, though.
I self-identify as white trash, so I wouldn't call it too terrible.
@avclub-b03b8d4bf8d4e3922a8c0b867e4f2ce0:disqus I work in a hospital, and if you've been in a hospital you know that there's pretty much nothing for patients to do but watch basic cable TV all day. I work in an ER, so a disproportionate amount of our clients are working class people who wouldn't otherwise have access…
I know many white people who watch "House of Payne", and I don't feel any compunction in describing it as being a "black" show. None of the black people I know watch "Mad Men" or "Downton Abbey" or "Girls" and I'm generalizing off of that. If there's a sizable black constituency for "Mad Men" then obviously I take…
I think it's fair to describe "Mad Men" or "Downton Abbey" or "Girls" as being "white," because the viewers are overwhelmingly white and the shows in question are all boring in the same way (nobody gets shot, no zany antics, lots of relationship and work bullshit).
It was getting real ugly around here in the months leading up to registration. In particular I remember some awful shit being said in a Gil-Scott Heron thread. Nostalgia is fun, but things happen for a reason.
Yeah, that doesn't really apply to me. And if you really feel like you're a piece of shit who will never measure up to his parents, you might want to change your behavior instead of bitching on a message board.
@avclub-eb573591cef285c12701571987b08381:disqus Ask my about my Fountainhead spec script.
Exactly how long will it be before people stop pulling 9/11 out of their ass in political arguments and expecting a hushed, respectful silence in return? It's been ten fucking years already.
Well played, potential conservative audiences.
If I had written the screenplay for Battleship it would have been about a dude named Battleship Jones fighting the Mafia. It would have been awesome.
Didn't "Real Steel" start its life as a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots screenplay? I'm serious.
Everyone's assuming that the Stretch Armstrong movie will be terrible because the toy is lame, but it doesn't have to be that way. Here's the secret: don't write the movie about a guy with super stretchy powers. Just make about a regular blonde guy in a blue speedo named Stretch fighting the Mafia or something, You'd…
No shit. The funny parts were lame as fuck and the serious parts were hilarious. As a dude who has read a fair amount of Punisher comic books, I have never in my life said "You know what I'd like to read? A story about Jigsaw and his crazy brother." I seriously prefer the Thomas Jane PG-13 crap to War Zone.
I can't help but feel like that was a fair tradeoff.
@avclub-cb0e59b8f769a8698b9f7154dd8809b5:disqus Like Jason says in the article, sex is kind of a gray area. I'm not sexually abstinent, but I do have serious reservations about one night stands, which are usually alcohol-fueled anyway. I honestly couldn't tell you how many times I've heard people say "I can respect…
@avclub-de4a08d644135b09bd7e1a592dff156b:disqus I like how even in your bullshit story you specify that the guy who slapped the cigarette out of your mouth was a little scrawny guy. Like if it was a big tough motherfucker you'd have totally bitched out, but you figured you could take him.
