So, I pretty much echo Hyden's sentiments…the show itself is going to be ridiculous, and the plots highly contrived…but it's going to be worth it for JR Effing Ewing alone.

Ok, I understand your point.  But I guess my point is more that the writers, as horrible as they are, clearly intended the finger slamming to represent to the audience that the Chief was violent.  The scene may have been orchestrated poorly, but I feel like the intentions were clear.

I actually think Bart To The Future is one of the few decent Season 11 episodes.  Not great by any stretch, but certainly not "as awful as it gets."
