This made me snort out loud.

We had a wonderful vacation, thanks very much @drdarke:disqus . I'm so glad you saved up so many choice cuts for me in the interim!

You know, earlier this year, I suddenly started making the beds in our house. I have never before made a bed when there wasn't a parent around telling me I had to. I never saw the point. Now all of a sudden, in middle age, I voluntarily make all the beds, for no other reason than I want to,

I like @avclub-7445cdf838e562501729c6e31b06aa7b:disqus 's analysis here. I doubt Sorkin's thinking got this far, but if he had kept digging for a reason to having the men and women act differently, he might have found this one, and it would have made some sense of a scene that, as presented, is just plain weird.

It is so mean. It puts down everyone involved, implying Dana is a screechy shrew lacking decorum, and that all their co-workers are simply adjunct to their little drama. I really hated Casey at that moment.

Wow! There may be an epic Sorkin/Three Dog master's thesis in this, if you can find some more connections. Preferably across all the Sorkin series.

Thank you for the kind words, Bucky.

You really say this well.  I tried to get at it in the recap by talking about Rydell's decision-making being informed by a kind of existential responsibility for his own moral character. I think the way you put it is helpful.

What is probably intentional, but is also magnified immensely by watching the two episodes back-to-back, is that the "strangeness" and "bad things" portended in "Eli's Coming" seem to have come to pass, since these offices buzzing with activity are shown initially empty and silent (for whatever reason … whatever it

Really elegant example. I do think we all know what you're talking about. It's not so much about gender, but about a sphere of domestic control, which historically maps onto gender. It's probably the very kindest way of reading that utterly strange "we're women in charge" line, and I appreciate your offering it.
