Oh, I don't think the rules of winning and losing should be different, but I think the coverage could be more empathetic to their feelings. Sure, they're elite athletes, but they're also not fully mature people, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some extra care to be taken of then.
The very best thing about London 2012 (tm) is the hats worn by the archers. Is it the Koreans who have the Burberry-looking plaid on the lining? I hope the popularity of archery leads to an ancillary popularity in bucket hats.

I've been generally on the side of defending NBC's concessions to television reality in these debates, but the gymnastics coverage last night was reprehensible. The announcers barely bothered to hide their glee that the Russians imploded, and even if that vault was a perfect 10, their outrage should have been more…
It's a way of saying to the audience: "Real diving is coming in a few days. We know you love diving. Have you forgotten? Here's a reminder."

I have nothing against them. My point was that NBC has tried to make them relatable using the same formula they use for snowboarders, which is basically to show them as charming, laid-back beach/slope bums. Which is a weird fit for beach volleyball to start with, because it's so intense.

I'm glad you liked them. Threw them in there for my husband, but if they bring any other readers joy, I am well satisfied.
