When I first saw this on Z Channel in the late 70s the audio was almost indecipherable.  Subsequent screenings I attended at UCLA presented prints where the sound was even worse or the print breaking down.  I finally saw a restrored version in the early 90s

While it may not be essential, I really enjoyed PIRATES: BAND OF MISFITS.  It had a loopy.irreverent script and the 3D really enhanced the model work.

I agree with your assessment on A SEPARATION, but BULLHEAD was pretty tremendous as well.

Todd, you did a good job of identifying the wonder and difficulties of Comic Con  in this piece.  Over the decades the expanding scope of the event has made it open to a variety of different uses and relationships.  Where once the attendee was predominantly only interested in comic books (and was thus presumably white

Wasn't Ford's rigidity in FRANTIC part of the films attempt at subversive wit?  After all, it seemed patently absurd that his character would expend so much lock jawed in rescuing his frumpy wife when he's got this hot young thing bailing his ass out at every turn.  The film is one of his most technically polished in

While there is a growing backlash against voiceover narration, I find at times that it serves as a powerful character in the movie.  In high school my friends and I only quoted Willard's monologues when invoking APOCALYPSE NOW into our conversations.  It's only bad when it fills in for material cut for time or to set

On a similar note, attempts to integrate period slang in the rhythm and vocabulary of contemporary English in historical films has begun to bug me, with GANGS OF NEW YORK being the most egregious example.  I think that DEADWOOD spoiled me.

Great quote, but as the asterisks indicate, it's a quote from Cecil Adams' column—Sorry for the pedanticism, but I have to grade for footnotes.

That was the only one that I read unabridged.

I'm stunned that there aren't more Cornwell posts on this site.  If the Warlord series been published when I was a teenager it would have definitely changed my reading tastes forever
