Well, then, your problem could be that the fellas in your life don't want you to be Mr. Plow. Maybe *they* want to be Mr. Plow. If you know what I mean.
Also: that's OUR word for makin' fun of YOU. We need it!

Yeah, that's my least favourite thing about Sorkin's stuff (both TWW and Studio 60): the overwhelming arrogance about how great the writers (Toby and Sam, Josh and Chandler) are, compared to how mediocre their work always is. I never heard Bartlet give a speech that would've passed muster for, say, George W. Bush, but…

Thomas Schlamme did a Q&A sometime after he left the show (but before Sam's return) where, when asked about Sam, said, "Well, obviously, he won the election."That is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I mean, to go from Toby's you're-going-to-lose goodbye speech to "he won" is ridiculous…but to say…

Yeah, my biggest problem with S6 and S7 is how, when main characters start leaving, they just aren't replaced. Even in S4, when C.J. makes a gaffe and is benched, they mention that they've brought in somebody to replace her temporarily. In S5, when Josh gets in trouble, they bring in Angela Blake. But by S7, you've…

This was the period of West Wing when Sorkin was particularly egregious with having characters ask other characters to repeat themselves, and it ruins the…

Not that this would have stopped Sorkin, master of the retcon, but Mrs. Landingham only died because she was coming back to the White House so Bartlet could tell her about his MS. I don't believe she was supposed to have already known. I also think it's totally…

Rob Lowe quit in a huff; Sorkin wrote Sam out in the most half-assed way possible. I'm surprised it wasn't, "Well, so long, Sam! Maybe we'll see you again in a few years!", or else him falling down an elevator shaft. It makes sense when you filter it through Sorkin deliberately fucking with Lowe/the audience.

Agreed - S5 is cratery, S6 and S7 are an okay show that bear no resemblance to the early West Wing and have frequent headdesk moments - but having just rewatched S5 for the first time since it originally aired, it's not *as* bad as it seemed the first time through. When you've amped yourself up for six months about OH…

This "smart and not" arc is what I HATE about S3 and S4. Sorkin painted himself into a corner with the MS revelation, and then around mid-S3 said, "Fuck that. I *could* make Bartlet earn the country's trust back, but let's just take some cheap shots at George Bush instead." The bar for Bartlet's re-election became "be…

For me, the Hoynes-Bartlet-Leo confrontation at the end of Life on Mars is probably the best the show ever got. I love how Hoynes was portrayed generally, actually. Sorkin doesn't usually do moral complexity - you're either a Hero or a Villaiin - and yet Hoynes was always perfectly drawn. Everything that's bad about…

Genji: marry me. Unless you're a dude. I don't go in for those kinds of backdoor shenanigans.
