I was SURE the Jessica St Clair/Perham/Mantzoukas improv4humans would be on the "Best of" this week. That's the only improv4 episde I've ever re-listened to. Holy hell, was that funny & fun!

I feel this film did the opposite— the Bathtub was cut off from a society that didn't value them. (Hushpuppy's community didn't build the levee.)

I watched Beasts of the S. Wild & tried to keep in mind the "poverty porn" criticism. However, if poor people can't be portrayed in a slightly negative light OR slightly positive light— or anything in between and nuanced, like this film—

I agree— I was choked up at other scenes in Beasts when I saw it initially— but that slow-dancing scene is the one that really lingers beautifully…. unforgettable.
