I actually really liked this episode, but that's because I have a comparable group of friends, and one of them invites his random skanks to intimate gatherings without asking.

Sideways error in the description
I know none of the staff are in California, so just wanted to let you know that Sideways was not in Napa, which is in Northern California. They went to the Santa Ynez valley, just outside of Santa Barbera in Southern Califorina. As the resident foodie and wine snob, I can say that

I am a huge Star Trek fan, and hated the new movie. All the Trek nerds I know hated it too. I always figured that the people who loved it were people who didn't like Star Trek.

A short history of nearly everything
Is one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read. Some other nonfiction omissions:
collapse by Jerad Diamond
an assault on reason by Al Gore

True.

Everyone has forgot about Deadwood. I would call Deadwood tied to the Wire.

Best cheese of the decade: Humbolt blue. (with a distinctive layer of ash in the center)
Best celebrity winery: Raymond Burr Vinyards (free tasting, and you can see his emmy from Perry Mason!)

Agreed that Fantasia does hold up very well. The nature version of the "Nutcracker Suit" is some of the most beautiful animation ever done. Also, as mentioned, the "Right of Spring" is very powerful today. That lava remains amazing, and that world remains erie and real.

So many good ones!
Agreed with Ringo, but also the other Beatles:
"Lisa, would you like to hear a song?"
also
"Sting!"

If you want to start listening to classic rock, start listening to your local classic rock radio station. That's how I started. Just give it a minute to see what you like. Classic rock is sometimes considered late 1960's to early 1980's, but sometimes even older stuff is included. There's a huge variety. Good

The louder you can sing to it, the better the song for the road.

Agreed.

I forget Zepplin. Any Zepplin is good for the road.

My car song will always be "Radar Love", especially at the start of a trip.

They vary from person to person.

Under Pressure by Queen is at the perfect beat to get my pulse rate up.
Also Conga by Gloria Estefan
These were the best for the best results in the gym for me.

Guess I'm not alone. I have a lot of songs to listen to.

No one has mentioned the Sesame Street reference.
"Jim is like Big Bird. He is tall, and yellow, and very nice, but would I put him in charge?…
I would put Bert in charge, or one of the real grownups, like Maria, or Gordan?"

Songs about trains
I love songs about trains, especially if there is a train like beat.
Stop that train
The Orange Blossom Special
Hey Porter
A lot of them end up in the country music genre for some reason.

I want you to steal a car. I want you to get in it and drive West. Play the tape full blast. When the tape ends, get out and get into a fight, then get back into the car, come to town and meet me at the Carcas Club. I will let you in to the most prestigious hotel of all time… Morrisson Hotel.
