Don't go barbershop raga on it.

I'm about half way through the show, and one of the things that's bothered me is its dated view of contemporary politics. Its not just the lame "blogs and twitter will never replace old-fashinoned news print" stuff, but its entire perspective on Washington politics.
I usually don't notice stuff like this, but I thought this episode loooked really cheap. The lighting was dark to the point of distracton, and it felt like they were trying to hide how little they could actually furnish the set. I get that its a halloween epside, but it got tothe point where I could barely make out…
(comment removed for obnoxious pedantry)
"Its got to have sex appeal and a catchy name."
Cut to a scene where the casino is called Mr. Burns' Casino and features an old man as a mermaid.
IF there's anything to show how brilliant this who was, its that moment.
Although as a Bears fan, I really enjoyed this, I feel like the whole oral history is starting to get a little played out. It seems like the Shales SNL book really started this trend, and people like Bill Simmons seized on it and so now every month or so we get an oral history of some pop culture phenomenon or…
I've been intrigued by Lindsay since reading Nixonland last year. He was everything that nixon and the New Right purged from the Republican party, including remarkably progressive on racial issues in light of some pretty incredible conrlicts in NYC. As much as people like to pine for a return of the "Rockefeller…
Are we sure that this "Nick Kroll" isn't just Chris Kattan's version of Rory B. Bellows? Did Kattan fake his showbiz death after his post SNL-carreer failed to catch on and is now trying to make it happen with a new generation?
I picked up the DVD of Suicide Kings in a Blockbuster clearance sale the summer before I left for college. It was one of those movies you could hae on in your room as an awkward dorm icebreaker. I've always had a soft spot for it, depsite my distaste for Denis Leary.

I was sure Mark Russel was going to be mentioned, and used as evidence that, no, bipartisan comedy can never be satirical.
I think trenchant insight would be the more effective play in this situation, followed by a rapid succession of bon mots.
Its amazing that in its heyday, this show would use a joke as great as a my dinner with andre arcade game for a throwaway gag.
I remember my body. Flabby, pasty skin, riddled with phlebitis. A good republican body. God, I loved it.
sacrelicious: Although your ideas intrigue me and would like to subscribe to your newsletter, I don't think your theory holds up to basic chronology. You seem to conflate long-term climactic changes beginning ca 10000 BC(E) with some of the changes in the late Roman period/early medieval period. Egypt and North…

I've been meaning to pick up that Applebaum book since reading the Menard review. Timothy Snyder's articles in the nyrb (and presumably his recent book Bloodlands) do a good job documenting the sheer scale of death unleashed in Central and Eastern Europe between Hitler and Stalin. The pure number of human beings…

We used to vacation in the Polish riviera of southwest michigan when i was in middle school and would go see a lot of movies in Michigan City on rainy days since we didnt have a TV in the rental. My dad and I were both fans of sci fi movies, and we heard about this cool new alien movie called Species. He took me and…

If I could somehow get Tie Fighter to run on my computer, preferably with my badass old programmable joystick that used a conrtoller port and a 6-pin keyboard adapter, I think I'd be the happiest boy in the world. That game was pretty much my middle school life. Dos Box and GOG is great for RTS and old advernture…
