So sad
Heard about him from American Splendor, loved the movie, started reading his comics, then I got to see him live when he debuted his jazz opera at Oberlin College.
Thank you so much for that link!
I view most of the features on the website not only as the themes they are titled for, but also as personal pieces that each individual writer brings his/her own voice into. Tobias isn't a fan of Jeunet, but he still gives the film a favorable introduction and talks about the scenes that he does like. Honestly, I…
Speaking of Dan Savage, I'm pretty sure he would agree with the sentiment that if homosexual men are more promiscuous/have more sexual partners on average than heterosexual men, it is because they are men, not because they are homosexual.
Realy enjoyed this post.
I've been meaning to start reading some Holmes and I like all of these recommendations, in the article and in the comments.
We watched this in my psychology class
in high school as if it were a decent depiction of retrograde amnesia. Oh, public education.
I agree with whoever said that The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation were good movies. Marie Antoinette, not so much. I feel like I've already seen this movie from watching the trailer…
I'm pretty sure in the pilot Jerry calls Kramer "Kessler" once, but it's muffled by canned laughter so it's really hard to catch. They probably made the canned laughter louder in syndication to cover it up.
Yay!
I JUST started watching the first season of this show a few weeks ago. This makes me so happy! I look forward to future posts!
Scott Tobias: The National Tour
Going to independently owned theaters around the country, showing films from the New Cult Canon. Please do this. And please come to Boston. The Coolidge Corner Theater was MADE for this!
Agree with the finale of Unforgiven, but the one moment that always gets me for some reason is when Clint Eastwood has trouble getting on the horse near the beginning. It's kind of funny, kind of sad, and really symbolic.
Congrats Amelie! Make the Office funny again!
The return of Futurama!
I'm cautiously optimistic.
Sam Rockwell would be an excellent choice.
Where not to start: across the street.
Agreed, Kline was the best part. He did a Q&A after the movie and is probably exactly how you would imagine him to be.
Boston?
I was just curious if anybody from the AV Club attended/is attending IFF Boston, or whether you guys have any strong opinions on it? I was there for the opening night film (The Extra Man - was just OK) but then couldn't attend anything else. It ends tomorrow I think.
I was always allowed to watch R-Rated movies, so maybe a conservative estimate would be that my first R-Rated movie was at the age of 8? I started drinking at age 17.
You already nicely nailed a lot of the shit that's wrong with this study already. There are PLENTY of other confounds that need to be discussed, such as a) the types of R-rated movies that the kids watch, b) the amount that the parents are involved in their children's lives, c) whether the parents watch the movies…
