I tried to grow a beard.  The whole goatee/moustache area was very thick and lustrous, but the rest was really thin.  Since it's not the 90s, goatees aren't acceptable, and just wearing a moustache made me look like a child molester.

Yeah a lot of the weird spellings in modern english are the result of the unholy union of Anglo Saxon and Norman French.  Words like "knight" once had very logical pronunciations.
