Some odd stylistic flourishes aside, I like that movie quite a bit (I rewatched it a week or two ago).

The end of the Les Miserables film shows the 1848 revolution that toppled the July Monarchy, which the 1832 student revolt depicted in the film failed to do.  That's a pretty inspired connection, I though.

There are various constituencies that were predisposed against it:  people who don't like musicals, people who more specifically don't like musical dramas, people who hate Tom Hooper for winning in 2010, etc.
