I agree.  And it's about time Disney proper got one of those — it was the Disney Renaissance of the 1990s that led to the creation of that category, but by the time it came out Pixar was dominating animated production, and even Disney's resurgent output in the last few years has struggled to get a word in.

Looper will be in my Top 10 for this year, most likely, so I liked it getting some notice, despite it clearly not going to be a contender in any real sense this year.  Though maybe it has an outside shot at an Original Screenplay nomination, since the writers' branch is fairly adventurous.

I don't think Denzel should be on this list.  If anything, he's regularly listed as one of the most reliable box office draws remaining.  He was just in the quite successful straight drama Flight.

The trailer for Good Night, and Good Luck is an example of a trailer that doesn't misrepresent the content at all, but does misrepresent the tone.  The trailer (which is a terrific piece of work) is super-heightened, whereas the movie itself is quiet and methodical (and terrific at that).

Since it's an adaptation, it wasn't really a remake.  But yes, it was called Beastly — it was famously dumb.

He also has that new version of Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson still in the works.

I don't think Weisz's win can be called unsurprising.  She got strong reviews, but prior to this there really wasn't much indication it was going to break though into the upper tiering of performances competing for attention.
