I know a dude who used to work for one of the companies now owned by Activision, and he said that, though it was incredibly well-paying, it was stressful as hell. Now he works for BigFish games, making Flash browser games and shit you see on Facebook, makes decent cash, and goes home at 5 every afternoon.

I had interpreted it as a statement on what is, perhaps, the majority of games: There is a guy, and there is a girl. In a fairly large number (most?) video games, this holds true. Whether that's Cloud and Yuffie or Joel and Ellie or Nathan Drake and Elena or Master Chief and Cortana… the list goes on of the number…
The original Bioshock is practically on rails. Kill the Little Sisters or don't, it does not make much of a difference in the end. You either get a sort-of happier ending or you don't, but it otherwise makes no impact on gameplay.
