No, it's because of people like you.

I read that post on this very site too! Also: if you're complaining about PJ Harvey at number 2 and not the abortion of an album that made number 1, you're part of the problem.

Pazz and Jop jumps the shark.

I don't think he is anymore. He's notorious for stuff like this and hasn't been at Pitchfork for years.

The Black Keys have been making music for several years longer than Creedence did and have just as many albums. You should be entirely comfortable saying that Creedence defecates all over the Black Keys right now.

"We're all in that boat to some extent."

Wait, what? You think Billy Bragg was the first person to point out flaws in education?

Probably has more to do with the simple fact that her name was in the news.

1992's Dry was her debut and is a great, raw rock record. 1995's To Bring You My Love probably has the largest share of her most well-known songs and is the one that made her a semi-star. 2000's Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea was also a pretty big release and is a lot slicker than anything she's done

Is This It didn't come out of nowhere, there was a lot of hype for that on the strength of buzz and The Modern Age EP. As for Funeral, it seems like you're kind of right based on his definition but it clearly "should" count. Other things to perhaps consider when bestowing Important Album status: could you imagine a

A few more candidates, on second thought: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, though critical reaction to that wasn't entirely adulatory; Stankonia, though that wasn't the mainstream splash that S/TLB was; The Blueprint, though its release date meant not many were talking about it until 2002; The Black Album, though it was

I think Steven's definition is really strict. Dark Twisted Fantasy, Merriweather, In Rainbows, Funeral, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Is This It, and Kid A are probably the only "Important Albums" from this century. MAYBE Illinois or Elephant but I think those would both be stretches. So, a year without an Important Album

Yeah, seriously. It's in a dogfight for best-PJ-Harvey-album status for me, and I don't find it to be a chore to listen to at all.

I doubt a band with Fuck in their name will ever be able to make an Important Album (by the definition here).

It's kind of troubling that the parents are considered the lead roles for this.
