I agree with you, I thought Xaro's original plan was to have Dany go after her dragons in the House of the Undying so she'd be locked there by Pyat Pree. I think they were banking on her falling for the illusions (either to claim the throne or to stay with Drogo and Rhaego) and that she'd stay in that false world

I totally agree about the scene in the Red Keep being rehearsed. My take on it was that everything about Joffrey marrying Margaery was decided beforehand, that pacts were made between the Tyrells and Lannisters and possibly documents signed. I frequent a forum where we talk about GoT, and I don't call it the Red Wedding for that reason. I think I just reference it as the "big event in the third book" (even though there are plenty of big events in that book).
