Eh… Pet Sounds is indeed great, which speaks much more to Brian's genius and The Wrecking Crew's prowess than it does the rest of The Beach Boys (who really just supplied vocals, fantastic vocals that they are). Outside of that, and of course "Good Vibrations," I find the rest of their later output pretty spotty.

Agreed that all of those albums have some real standouts, and some real crap. And that a pared down version of the Smile Sessions makes a strong case for what might've been.
