Slowhand is a fantastic album. I could go the rest of my life without hearing "Wonderful Tonight," but the other hits ("Lay Down Sally" and "Cocaine") are still great. Better still, all the deep cuts on it: "The Core" is a fucking JAM, and "Mean Old Frisco" and the instrumental "Peaches and Diesel" are standouts too.

I've typed a lot about Gregg's death in the Newswire obit. Needless to say it's hit me hard too. He'd had to cancel a lot of shows for health reasons the past few years, and when it was announced earlier this year that all of his 2017 concert dates had been cancelled I knew it wouldn't be long. But it still hurts.

OBJECTION - Why the fuck are you still here?

So, dealing with Hasslebeck was a step down then.

Zaentz was a thief. John may be a little nuts, but I respect him for that.

Even before the show apparently went downhill, I had to stop watching just because of how the writers apparently couldn't find ways to properly challenge Barry, apart from him standing around like a dumbass and getting clobbered every time he fights a villain.

Yep. Playin' Up a Storm isn't his best album, a bit too slick with the production and the LA session players, but it's got some good songs. That version of "Come and Go Blues" is really good.

81 is way, way too low for the great John Fogerty. He ain't no fortunate son!

The Warren and Derek lineup was, IMO, the best ABB lineup since the original Duane/Dickey lineup. They were crushing it in the 2000s… A shame they all had so many other projects going on and they only got around to making one studio album. It's a gem (2003's Hittin' the Note) though. Worth picking up.

Whipping Post, Dreams (a personal fave), Midnight Rider, Melissa, Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Wasted Words, It's Not My Cross To Bear… Gregg written songs, classics all.

I like that song, but 80's Gregg was reall up and down. Some fine songs, but a lot of it marred by the excessive production of that decade.

And an epsiode of the old Superboy show from the 90s!

Well, Bunning was a headcase. But, yeah, losing McConnell would be more helpful.

During their peak years in the 70s, they were called "The Best Damn Band in the Land."

And yet she still looks great.

Yeah… Jackson's version is excellent too (I've heard Nico's and 10,000 Maniacs versions as well ) but Gregg's is the definitive version.

Another really good read is the oral history of the Allman Brothers Band — One Way Out. I had it with me when I was laid up in the hospital after a hellish knee surgery three years ago (It had just come out). Read it in a single day, as the story was that engrossing.

Damn right. Gregg's got several really great solo albums (The 80s stuff is really hit and miss though) and that softer, more soulful than heavy blues side really shows on those.

That album, and At Fillmore East. Music really doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks for the kind words, all.
