The Artist kinda makes sense because of its lack of dialogue. Also, before The Artist, you would have to go as far back as Million Dollar Baby.

Looks like I'm the only one so far who has the Chazelle upset in Best Original Screenplay. In my defense: how often have you seen the Best Picture winner recently losing screenplay? Plus it's the Oscars, so they're bound to do at least a couple of upsetting picks.
