The "Why do these Decima guys keep killing themselves?" from John at the beginning of the episode was my favorite laugh of the night. It was like he was speaking in the voice of all fandom.

But Harold worried about this, so made sure that the opposite is true - the Machine sees every person as relevant. The Machine values humanity more than humanity does.
Someone in last week's comments brought up the idea of the Machine having multiple personalities or identities, and one of the Machine's "voices" or perspectives as the force behind Vigilance makes sense. Vigilance puts Control on trial, one thing the Machine couldn't do for itself.
Good call - they hinted at something like this when Reese was assessing his kneecapped Vigilance operative. "Expensive hardware . . . well funded . . well trained . . . must be Vigilance." Funded by . . . ? Trained by . . . ? No idea who it could be, but I bet the reveal will be awesome.
What's great is that the show takes Collier's obsessive actions and violence, which do make him just a terrorist, and contrast them with Control's actions and violence - which make her just the same. Greer, Collier, and Control's out of control government program are a three-sided coin. I love that the show makes each…
I generally don't go in for criticism on a show that's good enough to watch, I don't like the nitpicky, but the "look, Samaritan found a terrorist around every corner!" irked me. Surely we already have enough paranoia and associated stupidity in the big bad terrorist area? It must be convenient to have an endless pile…
I second this. Most locations I recognize but this one has me stumped. Are they in Westchester or something?
Absolutely. This is the only show I've ever watched where I'm surprised that there's more. I'll think it's ended on a terrible cliffhanger and it turns out there's fifteen minutes still to go. It's happened a bunch of times and it's always delightful. I thought for sure this one ended with the bridge swap but it just…
If she did suspect Harold was alive, why would she admit as much to Greer? If she suspects that Harold has gone through all this trouble to disappear, but trusts that he still loves her and knows she still loves him, why would she blow his cover? In flashbacks, it's been hinted that Grace knew Harold kept secrets, but…
I thought it was a brilliant call back, actually. There were a couple of scenes where Carter was determinedly keeping Stills' memory alive because she was so bothered by the fact that a cop had been disappeared. I think it was pretty realistic even without the continuity of it in the show. Cops do not let other cops…
And Sasha Frere-Jones. Greatest black woman name heist in history.
I don't know, cryptic Finch was extremely cryptic when he was talking about Grace. "Just remember what I said, she's all that matters." Hm? All that matters to him, or all that matters in a bigger sense . . . ? Was that a clue to the viewers? Or maybe he's self-aware enough to realize that losing Grace would make him…
I've always thought that a lot of that was a deliberate nod to its graphic novel/comic book roots. If you don't like that style, this show is gonna grate. There are a lot of visuals and lines that are pulled straight from that genre, very stylized. The way Reese's trench coat occasionally flaps like a cape, for one,…
Agreed, superb moment. What's interesting about Finch is that he seems to like being a good guy, and has always said the precisely ethically correct thing, at least before "kill them all," but you also always get the feeling that's not all there is to him. That, actually, there's some serious villain potential lurking…
Omg I know, pancakes again! For anyone who has checked out Bear's twitter feed you know that is a call out to the hound. He loves him some pannenkoeken. Pancakes must be Dutch.
Don't forget she's also Princess to Fusco. Kind of sweet.
I think she recruited the American beef lobby. They've been footloose since Harold abandoned them in DC and would know how to transport awkward packages.
I'm with you, I like that the death of Carter has been shown to have this sort of shattering impact, as a loss like that realistically would. Even if she's not there, or explicitly mentioned, her memory in the show remains huge. I think John's extreme recklessness in episode after episode since she died (in this ep,…
Very interesting. I like the idea of the Machine as an AI of raw emotion. And your points on how limited the Machine may be in what it can do are really good. Could it talk to Harold directly, if it wanted to? Why will it use Root to speak directly to other people, but not to speak to or give more information directly…
Killing that congressman or Greer would not have been justified self-defense. They weren't imminent, or in the case of the congressman, even knowing threats.
