Well, Jay Leno was in those episodes and wasn't presented as a tool, so I don't know about that.  Unless Leno was playing himself with the understanding that he was really based on Letterman… I've gone cross-eyed.

I saw an interview earlier this year where he plays the clip where Louis is yelling at the Late Show studio, giving it the finger, and screaming "Hey Letterman, Fuck you!" etc.  Louis says something like "Oh, you thought that was about you?"

Yeah, they do seem to have a certain charm and coolness about them.  I think maybe that's why it seems more scripted than a show like Honey BooBoo (which I also caught some of, it's been a shameful week) which is probably just as scripted, but those people can't talk properly and it mostly comes out as gibberish so…

I watched a few minutes of this show for the first time last night and I was struck by how obviously scripted it was.  Like I don't watch a lot of reality tv, but this one seemed like it had sitcom-like joke setups and punchlines.  Is that why people like it?  Because they think these guys are really that clever on…
