I recently reread those books and then I watched some later Star Trek movies and I have to say that the guy who plays Data (I don't know my Star Trek like Star Wars, sorry) would look exactly like how I imagine Thrawn would look.

Lucas claims a lot of stuff that's bullshit.  e.g. all the updates were because the technology wasn't available in 1977-1983 to fully realize his vision (so single lines of dialogue were dependent on technology?), he had a vision of all 9 movies before he filmed the first one, etc.
