I think season 9 is a pretty good season overall and it has some classic episodes. The first half of season 10 is quite good too. After that the show really declined.

A lot of populist/middlebrow entertainment is unfairly called bland/mediocre because they aren't ambitious.

I find that unless the writers are being repetitive that the soap style storytelling can provide more momentum than the short story form.

Sometimes misleading advertising works but if the tone of the trailer is radically different than the movie it won't work. Selling a downer as a happy, feel good movie turns people off.
