I think it's used to fantastic effect, because it's used actually very little except when it completely overwhelms the song, which should tell you that it's being used very intentionally for a very specific effect. Nah, Mackenzie's done that numerous times. Sure, sometimes it's undercut by things like the lights coming back on, but she can rally the troops with the best of 'em.

Agreed. I thought "5/1" made that pretty clear… the male characters are just as prone to hysterics and inappropriately-timed outbursts about their relationships as the women are.

But the whole point of the segment was that the "mainstream" Republican party is going whole-hog for the fringe, instead of standing up to them and actually governing.
