Even the 'specific lies' were plenty dubious at the time. The uranium thing was immediately called into question in the European press, 6+ months before Wilson came out with his story. And the UNSCOM inspections up to 1999 corroborated that chemical weapon stocks had been disposed of (though of course they could not

I'm trying this one more time, sorry for any repeats etc… DISQUS FUCKING SUCKS — this was all figured out twenty goddamn years ago you shitheads! — disqus and phpBB and all their prodigy are fucking cancers on the body of online communication.

I actually had Zinn's People's History in my high school US History — it was a quite a while til I realized how unusual that was.

Breakthrough? Broad success maybe (a breakthrough of a sort I guess) but Ultramega and LtL are their defining albums. BMF has some good stuff but they're already getting swept up into major-label-grunge schlock.

Most of the stuff Christopher Tolkien has put out (I haven't seen this) is more scholarly work than something to read for its own sake.

Whoops, I went to check it out myself and it's actually in Communication Problems.

Candy in the parlour.

Vineland is a slog. I recommend Inherent Vice as a first. It's got a lot in common with Vineland but is much tighter, sharper, funnier.  GR and MD are both massive and much more challenging, GR especially. I've never been a big Lot 49 fan, but it is brief and a good intro to a lot of Pynchon's proclivities. Still
