Good times, good times. One of my greatest nights out ever was MIRV/Melvins/Primus at the Greek in Berkeley, then across the bridge to the Haze "theater" for God and Texas, Sleep, Neurosis, and Crash Worship. Neurosis/Tribes of Neurot at the Palo Alto public library or community center or something. Raving on the

Oh come on… pensive leftmost lady, that's a pretty woman. Worried-looking brown hair behind, tough to say but I think there's potential. Half-obscured face, yeah looking a little thick in the arms but I'm more put off by her radical replicant-style hairline. Hand waver? She's got… great personality, just look at that

Les is the fuckin man. I haven't seen him in at least a decade but like you I had the good fortune to cross backstage paths with him a couple of times. The Man or Astro-Man dudes are pretty great also. Were you perhaps out and about on the Bay Area scene circa 1994?

I might have, though I'm not certain. I had a copy of Laughter in Carthage, but I'm not sure if I ever found the other ones. I was only able to get ahold of Mother London through an inter-library loan process, maybe I can do the same for those ones.

Mother London is totally distinct from everything else he's done and by far his greatest work. A awesome book I would recommend anyone check out. Not sci-fi or fantasy at all (but for just a pinch of psychic time-twisting), just a great modern novel. It's a shame his reputation has kept it from being better known.

I said this elsewhere, but read Mother London. It has nothing whatsoever to do with his pulp, sci-fi, sword and sorcery stuff. Fantastic book, superbly written, poignant.

First WA movie I saw was Tenenbaums, which was beautiful and affecting and funny all together. I was so excited for Life Aquatic, and then watching it I fell asleep — wrote it off as dull. I went on to check out Bottle Rocket and Rushmore and Darjeeling, which were all good — Rushmore the most fun, Darjeeling the most

I hope this signals a final season. I enjoy the show, but this six-seasons-and-a-movie crap plus the general American TV approach of doing everything possible to run a show for literally decades until it becomes utterly worthless is awful. British TV's couple of seasons, often brief, that finish up and let the players

He is definitely trying too hard at times, and it can be a little exhausting. But he keeps it up relentlessly and succeeds often and strikingly enough that I find it enjoyable and impressive overall.

I'm sorry, I can't let that pass. Buckley is fun and clever (I particularly liked Thank You For Smoking), but Waugh is in a totally different game. The best Buckley I think hits around the level of The Loved One, one of Waugh's lightest and slightest.

No one else seeing Lyle as a wraith meaning readers or characters? As a reader, I never saw Lyle that way, but now you've started me wondering.
