The Deep Impact sketch never made much of an impact on me when it aired but now I wish I had a freezeframe of him holding up the "Asteroid Coming… Black President's Fault" headline.

I've never heard that perspective (parents knew) and it's surprising to me.  I read it mostly like you do— we've been seeing things from outside The Alliance, but from inside, that's all there is.  The Tams are more convinced of the legitimacy of this government institution than they are in the sanity and intelligence

That's a good point.  Certainly not with the plot they went with, I agree.  I feel like there's a few minutes of characterization with the nurse and the little mute girl that seem to lead towards a direction other than unambiguously crazyevil, and I wish they would have just left it there rather than ratcheting up the

I think I have to agree.  The freakin' witchburning makes me so disappointed every time that I have a hard time keeping in mind why I expected something better of it, but there's some really great moments throughout the episode and I appreciated the review's walkthrough.  River and Kaylee have wonderful moments,

Also, here (USA) Smarties are kind of chalky dry pastel sugar pellets.  So this is just very confusing on all fronts.

Well said, it is a nightmare.  It's amazing to me that the BSA and the GSA have diverged so wildly in the past twenty or so years (the GSA moves to the opposite end of the spectrum, where you can't have a birthday cake for Juliette Low because it might offend the Seventh Day Adventists and there's an adapted Law and

I get the feeling he might have been willing to de-bend himself after he got done with the rest of the world.  The guy was committed, and I won't be surprised if his death becomes a martyrdom.

We don't totally disagree on Amon, but I really think saying that taking someone's bending away is like taking their money is pushing it way too far.  It's taking away something people were born with, an ability that shapes the way they sense and interact with the world, in order to make them more in line with an

I think it can be read multiple ways, which is great because it's a show with a diverse audience in terms of maturity.  I don't think it's set in stone that she was about to jump, but I did get the feeling during that long shot down the cliff of "holy crap, is she considering—" before pulling back.  I mean, she can

I'm just replying to you all over the place, aren't I?  I really like your thoughts and agree with them, especially Amon usurping the Avatar.  I can picture Amon seeking out the Avatar after leaving his father, and feeling betrayed and disillusioned when he found a girl delighting in her youth, ability and strength

I had a moment of thinking "wow, everything's really turning up roses" at the end when Lin got her bending back, but I think the fact that I legitimately thought that the attempted suicide of the lead character might be the ending of a Nickelodeon show in which I had already witnessed some pretty intense child abuse
