I attended a reading of Palahniuk's that revealed why his books turn out like this review quite accurately diagnoses. He spoke about how he'd submit his ms. then have more ideas, and send a revised ms., and repeat until the thing was actually printed. Then when it came out in paperback, he'd have more shit to add.
