I have totally noticed the turnaround on the acceptance of the Dead by the likes of Pitchfork. I think the recent Day of the Dead comp was the ultimate statement of their newfound acceptance by much of the indie rock world…many of whom were simply able to finally come out of the Dead closet. Like many, I really dig…
A very tough sell. I think that unless you dug them back in the 90s they will instantly come off as kind of cheesy. I always look at them as being one of the most unique bands I have ever been into. They often had really unique song structures, but they were kind of masked by great hooks and funny lyrics. They were…
HAHAHA.
That Tim Quirk piece on Bob Segar's catalog is really a great read if you nerd out on music industry stuff. Good write-up by the former Too Much Joy singer. That band could probably work for that podcast as well.
Agreed. More weird is good.
A pretty damn good hour of TV. Some heavy duty emotions at the end of this one. It makes me feel sorry for people who died before the golden age of TV began. When the golden age of TV is good, it can be daaaaaaamn good.
The customs/ Homeland security Beck Bennett filmed piece was incredible. Good call.
Totinos
Sectionals
Child Molester Robot
Casey Affleck Dunkin Donuts Commercial
Haunted Elevator
Jingle Barrack
Black Jeopardy
Tenement Museum w/Louis CK
Fatal Attraction (Tapper/Conway)
Chess Film (Keenan/Pete)
Too many Rappers (Keenan/Preg-Nancy)
Sectionals was my personal favorite from this season. The perfect collision of bizarre and funny and Louis C.K.
Child Molesting Robot should have been included as one of the best sketches of the year. Johnson just killed it in that sketch. He played the scientist perfectly. Such a great, edgy premise as well. And that's not even mentioning the ringer White Castle ending.
Alex Jones is endlessly entertaining…in all the worst ways.
Awwwww…she was always solid. I hope she lands something good. She's got a great sense of humor.
I stick with emusic, but maaaaan is it tough. Ever since they dropped the major labels the whole site has been in a tailspin. A couple months ago they were advertising the new Grandaddy album as one of their upcoming releases, release day arrives…no new Grandaddy album. Then, a couple weeks later, all of Grandaddy's…
It's the manipulation. The same nervous energy is exploding out of the White House right now. The Russian diplomat mouthing off to Andrea Mitchell last week felt like a bit of a Vargo moment as well. Not as bad of teeth though, but worse spray tan.
Sad news. I remember watching Philip Marlowe Private Eye when I was a kid. His part in the original Red Dawn was memorable as well, as was his work on Deadwood. Not the best known actor, but memorable for sure.
I love how the Russian invasion of the parking lot company serves as a pretty accurate metaphor for what's going on in the White House. All the parallels are really nuts. The explanation of the different kinds of truth in Russia was really eye-opening as well. I bet, behind the scenes, the Russians are imposing their…
Bring back Rissoli and Isles unless it's still on the air.
This could be good, but I would really prefer a multi-episode documentary similar to the adaptation of Wright's Going Clear. The history of the evolving middle-east through the 20th century is really incredible in the book. It sets up how the attacks happened perfectly. The CIA/FBI conflict was only part of the story.…
Donald Trump has to figure out a way to sue Donald Trump for making statements that tend to make Donald Trump look like a fool.
