I think I figured out what really bothered me.  It wasn't the timey-wimey, paradoxy magic fairy solution to the crisis.

I'd love to see demographics on the current audience.  It started as a children's show 50 years ago - but I'd bet most of the current fans are in their 20's and 30's.  I wonder how many families with children actually watch it as a "family show."  Maybe moreso in the UK than here.

Almost might make a little more thematic sense, since they a) spent 2 episodes establishing the flesh and how they were almost entirely identical b) there was a flesh "doctor" in those episodes and they made a comment that he might even survive c) Kovarian was fond of using flesh doubles for trickery, so why not hit

He even makes a mess of references to Dr. Who in "Coupling", so he's clearly been thinking about this for a while.

On that note (ha) is it just my feed or does it often sound like there's some weird digital artifacting in the score?  This season at least twice it's sounded like the background music was timestretched with the wrong algorithms…

I'm not above a good deus ex-y ending, but it sure seems like that's Moffat's go-to resolution these days.  RTD saved it for the finales, but at least he would introduce the possibilities earlier in the episodes.  Moffat keeps doing the deus ex in the last 5 minutes, like "oh hey melody can donate all her

I dunno what's funnier, that comment or the fact that only 66 women read the AV club.

I admit I am getting awfully tired of every single season finale upping the stakes.  The universe is at stake - the whole of reality - is always at great peril every single time.  Now, admittdely, in the old days they did that too, but not nearly as often.  End of the Key To Time, Logopolis, that was about it.  The

It was either going to be that or a "flesh" double.

Well, that's kind of the problem, innit?  It's a show that tries to be very slick and science fictiony and high-minded and then whenever something doesn't make a lot of sense they say "well, it' a children's show, relax."
