I think it depends how you take Vince's oft-repeated "Mr. Chips to Scarface" notion.  If you think that the show was supposed to illustrate the transformation of mild-mannered Walter White into a badass gangsta, then, yes, it's revealing that he never really accomplished that.

Ok, I haven't watched either show, but is Dads really that much worse than 2 Broke Girls?  It always seemed to me like 2BG was a terrible show with racist jokes that only got AVC attention because bewbs.  Or did it have some non-bewb-related redeeming qualities that warranted coverage while Dads does not?

No, the '80's sucked for TV.  They just did.  Let's not pretend otherwise.  I'm not so sure the 70's were that much better, but maybe I was just too young so I only remember the crap.  (And every era has produced tons and tons of crap).

Ha!  Agreed, for the most part.  One of my good friends HATES musicals, and someone tried to show him this movie once on this very principle, that it would be something he could appreciate, and it was just painful for him.  The final number, with dancers in spandex covered in veins, and all the glitter.

God, I hate this song.  It's possible that this is the first Hatesong that has involved a song that immediately popped into my head and I could re-live the hatred I've always had for this song.

I'm sorry, you wrote "Brenda Song in a schoolgirl outfit" and I blacked out for a minute.  What was this article about?

I think this episode had a very important nod to the Skyler hate in the prologue itself.  Skyler basically passive-aggressively ordered Walt to bring home pizza despite the fact that — as far as she knew — he was working late at the car wash (after, presumably, working at the high school all day).  She complained that

I had the same thought.  It was pretty clear to me the minute he started stressing his pronouns — I thought he was maybe pushing that button too hard, was going to reveal his ploy.

You had me at giant telepathic squid.

OMG, thank you for that link.  That was an excellent way to start this day. (without 17 crackers)

I think the Harvard/Yale rivalry doesn't reflect Lorelai's belief that Yale represents her upbringing while Harvard is some free-thinking anarchist's commune.  I think it's just that Rory has said she wanted to go to Harvard her whole life, while everyone in Richard's family has gone to Yale.  So Yale represents

Aw, man.  Finding out it's a prequel kills my theory that the whole thing was a joke to hide the fact that Saul was gonna get killed.

Time really altered my opinion on these movies.  When I saw the original, I thought it was amusing but still ultimately a pretty bad movie.  The second I thought was very funny and did some incredibly strange, inventive things with the concept.  It seemed vastly superior.

I think the conventional wisdom is that he's an awesome guy.  As Bkcurator pointed out, he gave away much of his Matrix earnings to the people he (rightly) recognized were actually responsible for what people paid to see, and he's got a reputation for being very generous, humble and (surprisingly) intelligent.

Aside from the heckling, I've never understood why people go to a comedy show to hear routines they know by heart.  It KINDA, ALMOST makes sense to go to a concert wanting to hear songs you know already.  It feels more natural, certainly pretty commonplace, to listen to music you know already.  Maybe because music can

Ryan's silences were some of the best comedy Ryan ever contributed to the show.  (that and his reference to "the way Michael looks at me," which was more about the visual punchline than about Ryan).  I know I say this every week, but it was such a shame when they retconned him into a douchebag.

OK, thanks for the corrections on Saul's association with Gus.  Clearly I need to go back and watch season 2 again.  And 3.

I really don't understand the people who are saying that nothing happened in this episode.  These are the people who drove David Chase crazy.

Add the milk to pops of corn to wash it down!

Gus, in general, was a "big picture fail" IMO.  The individual episodes involving him worked, but the character on the whole never did for me, because of the disconnect between who he was when he was introduced, and what he became by the end.
