I think the issue is the lack of cameraderie, not the canned nature of the jokes.  Most roasts have canned jokes that reduce the target to a single pre-packaged flaw.  The best ones involve comedians finding ways to unpack that and do a kind of "theme and variation" on it.  (one of my favorites, and from a CC roast,

Awesome.  Awesome awesome awesome.  The only slightly negative for me (I loved the domestic scenes, ftr) is that it was a tiny bit predictable.  The fact that our gang has been so untouchable lately, and given where we are in the season — it just felt like this HAD to be the episode where things started to go wrong,

I remember how excited some of us were when it looked like Ultimate FF was going to do a crossover with the 616 universe — Ultimate Reed had some kind of interdimensional portal thing going on, and he glimpsed at what appeared to be an older version of himself who said he was really excited about the discovery.

The important thing is that we're not all building up our expectations into an impossible to satisfy frenzy before this show returns.

For whatever arcane reason, "Avengers 2" is the first superhero sequel about which I've ever thought "Man, what the hell are they going to do for that?"

Wow.  I loved Culture of Complaint when I was in college, but I was going through a conservative period in reaction to my college environment (which was extremely liberal together with cold, judgmental and hipsterish).  I wonder if I'd still like it…
