To be clear, he didn't go back to opera house and tell Olivia she had to die only because she told him he said that. He took her tip and checked out the futures, and once it was verified, he went and told Olivia in the opera house. It wasn't just a purposeless time loop of he said/she saids.
I disagree. I think the September from the end of the episode is actually from earlier in his chronology, and the reason why the other Observers whisked him away is for his insubordination. I don't think we've seen September AFTER being taken away in The End of All Things. There's no reason why he would only know…
Was anyone else surprised that September's gunshot wound didn't come from the other Observers after all?
"as he proves once again (as he did last season with letting Peter go into the machine) that he is willing to possibly lose someone he loves for the greater good" Especially significant since his defining moment as a character is refusing to lose someone he loves despite it ultimately being harmful. Great stuff.
I would give it a B+ as well. Some great stuff, but too much not-great stuff to keep it in the A-range. Certainly not a travesty or a disappointment or a disservice to the seasons that came before it, though.
Well, yeah, but what were they doing? They didn't seem to have a purpose in his endgame.
Come on guys, happy endings aren't necessarily hackwork. Whether this happy ending specifically was is up to your own discretion, but dismissing it just because it wasn't tragic is a bit unfair, don't you think?
The whole deal with Cortexiphan was that it was supposed to nurture psychic properties (basically) in children's brains into adulthood, so as long as the powers it gives are something that can be linked back to that, I'm good. Olivia Wiimoting Peter, helping Jessica and regenerating her own brain all fit the bill. But…
Hey, what was up with those shapeshifters at the beginning of the season?
Thoughts on the season as a whole? I thought it was generally very strong, though I probably prefer both 3 and 2, in that order. I didn't consider it nearly the disappointment that a lot of others did, mostly because I'm a viewer that's good with whatever direction the writers throw at you (so long as it's deliberate…
It definitely is. It was basically filmed as a series finale and the Observer scene at the end was an add-on if they got renewed.
I don't think it is, since clearly Bell and Olivia were both alive when they were ambered (well, not Olivia, but you know what I mean). I suspect that whatever Walter was talking about has still yet to happen.
Well, to be fair, it was at least partially designed as a series finale, for which changing the status quo is far less of a requirement. This was very much a round off of the past four seasons and a launching point for Season 5's new stuff.
Dammit, I'm upset this only got a B. I thought at the very least it was a half-grade above last week's episode.
Oh, whatthefuckever.
LOL, I think your caption under the picture is a bit off..
Pretty much everything I disliked about this episode came from Nina's mouth (so I totally agree with you there). I can also see your point about the ending being to happy-happy, which is fair, but I didn't mind it.
I've got to disagree with you, Noel. I thought this episode was much tighter and stronger than the last one, and I loved it. There was some cringeworthy dialogue to be sure, but that's par for the course for Fringe (and can only hurt it so much anymore). I'd give it an A-.
Banshee.
