Not so clueless after all, are ya?

Yeah, that's the excuse I gave to my wife. "I would have lasted longer, but I was listening to the new Green Day album!"

I'm not a big fan of Papa Roach, but I honestly do think this is a nice effort. I thought the original article was a bit mean-spirited on AV Club's part (although I thought Jenn Wasner handled it well), and have a bit more respect for Papa Roach in how classily they handled it. I won't be listening to their music

It just came off as a bit mean-spirited to me (from the AV Club, not Jenn Wasner). I always came to the AV Club as a place that seems to respect different tastes in different things (and tries to understand these differences), but this feature seems to go to a meaner place. Wasner, for her credit, acknowledges that,

I'm a big fan of In & Out of Control as their best poppy album (Suicide is my favourite song by them). Whip It On is a little darker and heavier, and also a good bet, as is Chain Gang of Love.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've read some Bradbury and Mieville, and will be sure the check the others out.

Very true with the line getting blurry. Some of my favourite authors are David Mitchell, Cormac McCarthy, Amy Hempel, Mordecai Richler, Vonnegut, but some of those would probably get pretty close to blurring that literary/genre line.
I really think a lot of it has to do with personal preference, and like I said, I

I still think it's difficult to write a GOOD novel about mundane topics. In my opinion, I prefer superb 'literary' fiction to most genre fiction. I guess I can relate to it better. I also find, too often, that in genre fiction imaginative stories come at the expense of good writing (with exceptions, of course).

I just realised I've been mixing up Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. Isn't it ironic, Alanis, DON'T YOU THINK?!? It's kind of like that time when I had a spoon, and really needed a fork.

I sort of agreed with you initially, @avclub-f8665a36d5a911922da81a12443887ed:disqus.  I heard them on some compilation or free download thing and wasn't hooked at first. Then, I heard Waterfall off their last (Play it Strange) and could not stop playing that song, and then liked it all when I went back to it. I'm

Well, maybe if you're lucky, he will whisper “Fuck! Fuck! Fucking hate! Fucking cunt cocksucker whore! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” in your ear as you fall asleep.
