I just wanted to say I'm a fan of this feature. It can be a bit hit and miss (at least for my tastes) but it's a great way to discover some stuff that would otherwise fly under my radar. These guys seem promising, too.

The 'kiss' isn't a metaphor so much as it is a euphemism. SPOILER ALERT: things get pretty graphic……and sexy.
YEAH CANADIAN AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION FOR LIFE MOTHERFUCKERS.
In this acronymic case, Google was of no help to me.
I'm also a big fan of having a few longer, 'flagship' reviews of media. I like the insights of the writers at the AV Club, and always thought it was a shame there wasn't more room for that in reviews.
Sorry, @avclub-22eda830d1051274a2581d6466c06e6c:disqus, just joking with you. Me, I never got into Grizzly Bear, and I rarely wear a suit, despite a relatively respectable haircut.
How old are you? 900? Do you complain about those scruffy Beatles as well?
Probably, but man, did that kid EAT Valerie Bertinelli?
Wait, Patrice O'Neal is dead? I was pretty sure his name was Sean.
I think the National are made to be overly-fussed over, production-wise (and I mean that as a positive).
This album is quite good. Epic had potential, in my eyes, and that's further developed in this record. As the review points out, she's progressed a long way in three albums, so I'm also excited to see what she does…
I'm listening to it now, and I don't think it's as bad as the review makes it sound, although some of the songs aren't very memorable. I still think Bubblegum was one of the best albums of 2004 (Christ, 8 years ago), and I love his work with Soulsavers.
The Twilight Sad (yes, it's a stupid band name) have been a bit disappointing on their past two albums, in my opinion. I've only listened to this a few times though, so maybe it'll grow on me. Oddly, they're playing a tiny pub here on Saturday, and even if the album hasn't impressed me yet, it should be a great (and…
No, the French version is actually called 'N.O.U.S.'
I was busy feeling bad for James D'Arcy. Can you imagine being an actor, reading a review of your work in a film, and being described as having a 'vaguely inbred quality'?
Yikes, nothing! I like them. As I said in my original comment, my point was that their songs (especially on their latest albums) really focus on the negative and rarely let in ANY light, or admit any positive facets to a character's life. For the record, I think Post to Wire was the last record where they really…
'So, have you seen Man on a Ledge?'
'No, what's it about?'
I'm no grammar expert, but I think you mean 'not well hanged'.
Interesting point @avclub-e053e4f47a7ccbc51be254596e483d7c:disqus, and I think it's justified (editing and bouncing ideas off other people may shape the form the content of a novel takes, but I doubt it detracts from the single author's vision). This review reads like the book lacks some emotional heft and sermonises…
Well, your avatar seems apt. Thanks for your erudite discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of Craig Finn's new solo work!
I bought this yesterday without hearing a thing, just based on a positive review in one of the Sunday papers (I've lived a long time in a place with no record shop and just moved, so I went a bit crazy in my first week back in civilisation. I missed the days of new, random discovery). I really, really like it so far.…
I've only listened to this a few times so far, and while it's alright, I'm a bit disappointed. Musically, it's less interesting than Hold Steady records and just lacks some oomph. Lyrically, it's fairly strong as Craig Finn usually is, but it suffers a bit from Richmond-Fontaine-Willy-Vlautin syndrome, WHERE EVERY…
